Bala Cynwyd Attempted Robber Tied To NJ Kidnapping Attempts: Cops

BALA CYNWYD, PA — Police in Lower Merion said a man involved in an attempted gunpoint robbery in a Bala Cynwyd apartment complex last month is connected to attempted kidnappings in New Jersey.

The armed robbery attempt occurred at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4 in the Royal Athena Apartment Complex at 600 Righters Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd.

During the incident, a man followed a woman into an elevator and put a gun to her back saying "you know what this is," police said.

The would-be robber left the complex when the victim ran from the elevator.

Now, Lower Merion Police say the man is believed to be the same person involved in two attempted kidnappings on Nov. 14 and Nov. 20 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Police described the suspect as a black man wearing a blue quarter-zip sweater, blue pants, a white hat, a blue surgical mask, and white and blue sneakers. He was driving a 2007 to 2012 black Nissan Altima with its license plate covered up, however police believe it is registered in Pennsylvania.

Lower Merion and Cherry Hill police are working together on the investigation.
