Chip Kelly Expert Coming to Town on Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, Bala. Here's a quick look at the day ahead.

Happy Wednesday, gang. Below are four discrete bits of information that we hope make your day a little easier. If we missed anything, which is, admittedly, a possibility, let us know in the comments below.

  • Fun: Wondering what coaching wunderkind Chip Kelly will do with the Eagles this season? Wonder no more. On Wednesday at 6 p.m., Mark Salveit, author of The Tao of Chip Kelly, will visit Main Point Books in Bryn Mawr to talk birds. See you there.
  • Traffic: Check out the PennDOT traffic cameras to get a beat on how traffic looks this morning. A prediction: not great.
  • Weather: The forecast calls for highs in the high 70s with scattered thunderstorms. Temperatures should dip a few degrees when night falls, with more rain. Yippee.
  • History: Academics have a reputation in some circles as being all theory and no action; nebbish pencil pushers who deal only in the abstract. Well, according to the History Channel, on this day in 1947, a Norwegian anthropologist complicated this stereotype. 66 years ago today, researcher Thor Heyerdahl and his five-man crew finished a 4,300-mile, 101-day journey from Peru to Raroia, an island near Tahiti, on a wooden raft. Heyerdahl, according to the History Channel, "wanted to prove his theory that prehistoric South Americans could have colonized the Polynesian islands by drifting on ocean currents." Um, mission accomplished.
