Main Line Health, parent company to these three facilities, said while Leapfrog has its prescribed grades, the healthcare group works with regulatory agencies that do in-depth visits and assessment of our measures.
"These include the Joint Commission, Magnet, and Blue Distinction Award, among others. One specific example is the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)," Main Line Health said to Patch in an email. "CMS has a Five-Star Quality Rating based on a full spectrum of information which includes safety measures, patient satisfaction surveys, and quality measures. In their most recent Five-Star Rating, CMS rated Main Line Health Hospitals as 'top performers,' as Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital and Paoli Hospital each earned five stars, while Riddle Hospital earned four."

Main Line Health said Leapfrog is a membership based and that Main Line Health is not part of it.
"For non-members, ratings are pulled from a subset of public information and therefore incomplete and different from the data they have for Leapfrog members," Main Line Health said.
Overall 56 hospitals in the Keystone State received an A grade, 32 got a B, 27 got C, and eight got D grades.
Medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections are taken into account by Leapfrog when calculating the grades. The goal of the rankings is to determine a patient's risk of further injury or infection if they visit a certain hospital.
Grades range from A to D. The Leapfrog Group explains that its rating system is focused entirely on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
Hospital safety grades are released by the nonprofit group twice a year, in the spring and in the fall.
The group relies on a panel of experts to select the measures used in the methodology and to develop a scoring system.
