Lower Merion Library System: Code Club

Coding is best defined as using language to get the computer to act in a certain way. I know from numerous failures.

May 3, 2021 – Hey everyone, it’s Laurent from Ludington Library, and I’ve got some really exciting news. As you know, LMLS is always at the forefront when it comes to offering Lower Merion patrons the best service, both in-person and online. This year alone LMLS added Kanpoy and Concierge pick-up to make life a little easier for you.

Well, LMLS has done it again with Prenda, a learn-at-your-own-pace coding class for kids that’s free for any Lower Merion card holder (that’s right, adults, even though the program is geared towards kids and teens, you can learn coding, too). The Lower Merion Library System partnered with technology company, Prenda, which provides software, training, and support for libraries around the country to run engaging programming where patrons learn how to code. In this informal educational setting, you can learn computer programming skills through a series of tutorials and projects. You can learn how to build websites, video games, phone apps, animations and more, all the while learning how to become better a problem solver and critical thinker.

Coding is best defined as using language to get the computer to act in a certain way. I know from numerous failures while trying to learn HTML in college how overwhelming coding can be. But after spending some time with Prenda, I can say I felt confident in what I was learning. To put it in simple terms: PRENDA IS AWESOME

When using Prenda, you begin with simple building blocks, which makes everything feel accessible. Each lesson builds on the last in a logical progression, and even making mistakes teaches you something new. There is a deep well of knowledge providing you with the skills to create your own apps, websites, video games, and animations.

To register and begin coding, grab your Lower Merion library card and visit www.lmls.org. Then click the “Kids” menu, and then the Prenda logo on the right. Or click the Prenda button below to get started:

  • This service is made possible by a grant from UHS – United Health Services, through the Pennsylvania Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.
