Main Line-Area Hospital Among Nation's 100 Best

The Main Line hospital joins four others that were named among the best hospitals in the entire nation. See its score here.

A Main Line-area hospital has been named among the best hospitals in the United States, placing it in the top two percent of all hospitals nationwide. The honor comes from a study run by Healthgrades, a healthcare information company.

Healthgrades listed Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood among the nation's 100 best hospitals.

According to Healthgrades, the hospitals that receive its awards have superior clinical outcomes across the majority of common inpatient conditions and procedures. Healthgrades says that these hospitals sustained their performance for at least five consecutive years.

Lankenau scored an 82 percent positive in patient experience, and earned "as expected" or "better than expected" in 12 of 13 safety indicators. The hospital also received high clinical quality ratings in many categories, especially in pulmonary care.

Four other Pennsylvania hospitals were ranked in the top 100, including Reading, Lancaster, Chester County, and Thomas Jefferson.

"Hospitals that have been named an America's 50 and 100 Best Hospital by Healthgrades have achieved and sustained high-quality outcomes for their patients over many years and continue to set themselves apart to consumers," said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer at Healthgrades. "We commend the recipients of this distinction."

To be eligible for the rankings, a hospital must be evaluated in at least 21 of the procedures and conditions. Healthgrades uses Medicare inpatient data purchased from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
