Main Line Police Department Hosting Drug Take Back Event April 28
Drug take back events help keep old and unused medications out of the wrong hands and from contaminating the environment.

A Main Line police department is once again joining in on the efforts to encourage safe disposal of old and unused medications that can harm the environment or end up in the wrong hands.
On April 28, Lower Merion Township Police are joining other police departments in Montgomery County for the Drug Take Back day.
Area residents can dispose of their old and unused drugs at the Lower Merion Police Department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28.

More than 42,000 pounds of medications have been collected in the county since the program began in 2010.
"Clearly, folks are getting the message that they need to get these medicines out of their homes and have them disposed of in a safe manner," District Attorney Kevin Steele said. "There is a growing awareness of the enormity of the heroin-opioid epidemic and its link to the over-prescription of opioid medications."

Flushing medications down the toilet can also wreak havoc on the environment, leaching into the ground and into ground water, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Lower Merion Police Department is located at 71 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.
