Major Project To Make City Avenue Safer Launches

Work will affect traffic on City Avenue through early fall as pedestrian safety, intersections, and drainage are improved along the road.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — A major project is underway on City Avenue that will make it safer for pedestrians, improve intersections, and add better drainage along the road.

These improvements are part of Phase II of a three-phased Streetscape Improvement Plan. Phase II is a $5.1 million project expected to be completed early this fall.

City Avenue will have single lane closures through early fall 2020. Lanes will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur.

The project is being undertaken by the City Avenue Special Services District.

Phase II is financed in part by a grant from The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth Financing Authority, PennDOT, The City of Philadelphia, St. Joseph's University, Montgomery County, and the City Avenue Special Services District.

City Avenue Special Services District will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.
