Narberth 5 Mile Run & Walk Set for Saturday, April 27th

FULFILLING BREATHERS FOR THOSE BATTLING CYSTIC FIBROSIS (CF)

The Take A Breather Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) charity, will host the 24th annual Narberth Take A Breather 5 Miler & Walk on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 9:00 am in Narberth, PA. The event will include a 5-mile run, 2-mile walk, kidz fun run, and race day festivities. All proceeds will grant wishes, or “breathers,” for children and adults living with cystic fibrosis (CF). Registration will begin at 7:30 AM, and the 5-mile run, and 2-mile walk will depart at 9:00 am from Narberth Park, located at 80 Windsor Avenue in Narberth. Participants are encouraged to arrive prior to 8:30 am because the roads in Narberth will close for the race. For race and walk information, please visit the Take A Breather Foundation website, www.TakeABreatherFromCF.org/NarberthRun. Please call (610) 664-1826 for additional questions.

The Narberth Run first set off as a celebration of the Narberth Borough’s Centennial. The following year, two Narberth families, the McCloskey and Nardi families each deeply affected by cystic fibrosis, along with their Narberth community, decided to continue the run and use the proceeds to support wishes for children battling cystic fibrosis (CF). That first year, in 1996 the proceeds from the run supported a wish, allowing for an 11-year-old boy with CF and his family to travel to Disney World for the first time.

In 2012 the Narberth Run grew into the Take A Breather Foundation which is led by Matt McCloskey, 50, who lives with CF and had a lifesaving bi-lateral lung transplant in 2015. Matt has made it his life’s mission to not only bring awareness to this disease, but also to lessen the burdens on other families facing this struggle every day.

The Take A Breather Foundation mission is to provide a “breather,” in the form of a respite wish, for children and adults who have been touched by cystic fibrosis, offering them and their families the opportunity to “take a breather” from CF and focus on creating magical memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Take A Breather Foundation has provided over 200 “breathers” for children and adults with cystic fibrosis. Recipients receive care in hospitals locally including the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; the Adult CF Care Program at the University of Pennsylvania; the Cystic Fibrosis Center at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children; the Drexel University College of Medicine Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program; and CF Care Centers in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, North Carolina, Florida, among others.
