Narberth Streetlights Got Free Electricity For Decades
Streetlights in downtown Narberth were running on PECO energy for years without ever being billed.
NARBERTH, PA — After a few decades of getting free electricity for its streetlights, Narberth Borough is now paying up.
Narberth officials Thursday said its streetlights along Forrest Avenue have power again after reports of them running on PECO energy without being billed for years.
According to Main Line Media News, the issues was discovered recently when a contractor was doing utility work along Forrest Avenue.

The streetlights were tapped into underground PECO conduits.
NBC 10 reports about 80 streetlights in Narberth were running free of charge due to a metering and billing issue.

The borough said those lights are being reconnected by PECO as soon as the weather is favorable.
The Delaware County Daily Times reported Narberth paid about $80,000 to fix the issue.
Officials think it all stemmed from someone giving the lights an unauthorized electrical hookup about 20 years ago.
Narberth officials said they look forward to finding a permanent solution to the issue.
