The new eatery is a joint venture between partners Jason Gordon, the Philadelphia franchisee for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream since 1999; hospitality consultant Michael Greene; and Chef Josiah Richmond, formerly executive chef of Café Lift. The trio describes the menu as “elevated comfort food.”

"We wanted to include Neapolitan pizza because we noticed a need for it on the Main Line," Richmond said. "We wanted to do it right, so we imported an Acunto brick oven from Naples, and we’ve been working with it for a few weeks while the space was being finished. We’re excited to introduce our pizzas as well as our roasted vegetables and house-baked pita bread that we’ll be baking in the oven, and we’ll likely introduce some new pizzas and dishes prepared in the oven later this summer."

Richmond, a Colorado transplant who played arena football for the Colorado Crush between 2007 and 2009 before becoming the team’s general manager, went on to become the chef and general manager at Lucille’s Creole Café in Boulder, and most recently served as executive chef at Café Lift.

Royal Café Narberth is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Weekend brunch will begin on Saturday, July 11. Lunch service will come later this summer.

Outside dining and takeout is currently available.
