Purse-Snatcher Strikes on Porch, Police Say

A Union Avenue resident told Lower Merion police she was robbed at her front door Thursday night.

A stranger ripped a purse away from a Bala Cynwyd woman before she could enter her front door Thursday night, Lower Merion police said Monday.

The victim was on her porch on the 100 block of Union Avenue about 9:15 p.m. when a man approached her, took her purse and ran down the street, police said.

He did not display a weapon, and no injuries were reported to the victim.

The man was described this way:

  • Black, early 20s
  • 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-1
  • No facial hair
  • Wearing white hooded sweatshirt or track jacket

The purse contained IDs and credit cards, and items of an unknown value, police said.
