5-Unit Apartment Building Burns, 7 People Displaced

No one injured in Polk Street apartment building fire. Red Cross helps affected families, first responders.

Seven people were left homeless by a fire that damaged a five-unit apartment building in South Bethlehem Saturday morning, according to the American Red Cross and published reports.

The Bethlehem Fire Department responded to the blaze on Polk Street at a little after 5:30 a.m., according to The Express-Times. No one was injured and the fire was contained to mostly the second and third stories of the building, the newspaper reported.

The Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross provided numerous services at the scene, including, food, shoes, clothing, blankets and vouchers for lodging, according to a news release. The organization plans to follow up with the affected families and provide additional services as needed.

The Red Cross also provided canteen services including: coffee, hot chocolate, tea, assorted cold drinks and snacks to both displaced individuals and emergency responders.
