Arbor Day: Free Tree Seedlings Available Friday

Free tree seedlings will be available Friday to residents on a first-come, first-served basis at Bethlehem City Hall, in honor of Arbor Day.
Seedlings that will be available at City Hall, 10 E. Church St., will include Eastern redbud, Sugar maple, Concolor fir, American mountain ash, and Kousa dogwood.
Since 1990, Bethlehem has had the honor of being designated as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. More than 3,400 communities are currently listed in the national recognition.

Mayor John Callahan will accept Bethlehem’s Tree City USA Award and Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation. Tim Latz, DCNR Service Forester for the William Penn Forest District, will be on hand to present the awards.
Also Friday, the 3rd grade class at Calypso Elementary School, 1021 Calypso Avenue, will join Callahan at 11 a.m. at the school in celebrating Arbor Day. Arborist Joshua Malik of Joshua Tree Experts in Stockertown will demonstrate safe, proper tree-climbing techniques to students.

Other Arbor Day student activities planned for the day include leaf rubbings, seedling planting, and relay races.
