Bethlehem Student Catches Enterovirus D68
A St. Anne's student is recovering at home after catching the respiratory illness. The school remains open.

A student at St. Anne’s reportedly has the enterovirus D68, a virus which has sent hundreds of US children to the hospital.
This is the first case in the Lehigh Valley.
“The student’s recovering at home,” Matt Kerr, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Allentown, told Lehigh Valley Live.

The school is open and is operating under the CDC’s guidelines, including a prioritization for disinfecting surfaces touched by students and disposable cups for the ate fountains.
There have been 472 cases of EV-D68 reported to the CDC nationwide. The virus causes flu-like symptoms and can be particularly harsh for children with asthma.
