Cornerstone Advisors Asset Management Wins “Best Places to Work"

Pensions & Investments presents award to local investment consulting firm.

Cornerstone Advisors Asset Management, LLC, a Bethlehem, Pa.-based investment-consulting firm, has won a “Best Places to Work in Money Management” award from Pensions & Investments for the second year in a row.

Presented by Pensions & Investments, the global news source of money management, the sixth annual survey and recognition program is dedicated to identifying and recognizing the best employers in the money management industry.

One of the reasons Cornerstone was chosen as a Best Place to Work is because the firm takes employee communication seriously.

The 28-person employee-owned company’s "Cornerstone University" initiative is built on one of the firm's principles, thought leadership. Through knowledge transfer and cross training, awareness of services and capabilities across the firm, every employee participates as a thought leader in their particular area of expertise.

“Cornerstone’s employee-owner culture hinges on transparency and thought leadership, as evidenced by regular sharing of intellectual capital throughout the firm," said CEO Thomas J. Scalici. “Our close collaboration as a team helps us meet our goals, and we work together to share our combined experience in offering each client a customized, integrated strategy.”

Thought leadership classes vary in topic, including presentations on compliance, information security, and private wealth case design. Mr. Scalici said he and Malcolm "Skip" Cowen II, president, also spend about 90 minutes with each employee at the end of the year to discuss their career goals.

"We focus on career objectives and what skills will be necessary to get them there — it gets people to project forward as opposed to looking backward," said Scalici.

“All of the firms being recognized this year are leaders when it comes to creating a great place to work,” said P&I Editor Amy Resnick. “Employees at these top-ranked firms most often cited, their colleagues, the firm’s culture and the benefits as the things that make it a great place to work.”

Pensions & Investments partnered with Best Companies Group, an independent research firm specializing in identifying great places to work, to conduct a two-part survey process of employers and their employees. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25% of the total evaluation. The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 75% of the total evaluation.
