'One of Us Is Going To Die Tonight,' Father Told Son: Police

A family drama turned violent on a quiet Bethlehem Township street Monday night when a 46-year-old man bloodied his adult son with several punches to the face and at one point appeared ready to do a lot worse, according to court papers.

Matthew C. Osley, 46, of Quaker Drive, at one point grabbed “the biggest knife from the block” during the knock-down, drag-out fight with his 23-year-old son, according to an eyewitness account provided by Osley’s 20-year-old daughter.

“Put down the knife,” Osley’s wife yelled at her husband, which he did before charging back at his son, throwing more punches, wrestling him to the ground and putting him in a chokehold, police said.

“You think I’m soft. One of us is going to die tonight,” Osley told his son while he had him in the chokehold, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Osley also kneed his son in the mouth and punched him in the face several more times when he had him against a wall, the affidavit says.

Money woes appeared to be the cause of tension for the family, which lives just west of the Green Pond Golf Course, according to court papers, though the son also told police that Osley had assaulted his mother “several years ago.”

It was for that reason that the son told police he rushed to his mother’s defense when he heard Osley threaten to “stomp her guts out” during an argument. “You’re going to have to stomp me too,” the son told police he said to his father.

That’s when Osley charged after him and the physical fight began, police said.

Osley was charged with one count of felony aggravated assault, one count of simple assault and two counts of terroristic threats.

He was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
