Scenes From Snow-Covered Bethlehem

Parts of Historic Downtown Bethlehem looked like something you’d see in a Currier & Ives lithograph: Buildings and lampposts decked out in evergreen with red bows and a generous coating of white.

The only thing missing was people.

In the aftermath of a winter storm that left behind 7.5 inches of snow overnight, Main Street was desolate on Friday afternoon—especially when compared to how it looked before Christmas.

The bitter cold and frigid Arctic winds probably had something to do with it. The temperature never climbed higher than 15 degrees, while the wind chill factor hovered at or below zero for most of the day.

Road conditions were no help either. Even many major arteries through the city remained partially snow covered and sloppy in some spots.

Saturday won’t bring very much more warmth. The National Weather Service forecast high is 25 degrees. And more precipitation in the form of sleet and rain is in the forecast on Sunday.
