Charges Against Canonsburg Man Accused of Kicking Down Door, Assault, Dismissed, Reduced

Charges against a Canonsburg man accused of kicking down a bedroom door in the borough and allegedly assaulting a resident there have been dismissed and reduced.

Canonsburg police had initially on June 19 charged Corwin Riedel with simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness following an incident in the wee hours of that morning.

Police said they were summoned to a fight reported at 312 N. Central Ave.

When officers arrived, they heard two men yelling "and a lot of commotion in the residence," according to the criminal complaint.

Police said the victim was William Yarbrough, was restraining Riedel, 33, in the stairwell.

"Yarbrough stated he was inside his bedroom with his girlfriend, the door was secured and Riedel kicked the door in and began to assault him," the criminal complaint indicates. "Yarbrough was able to free himself and they wrestled into the hallway."

Police said the incident stemmed from Yarbrough residing at the residence while he was incarcerated.

Riedel was jailed on the charges.

But during a preliminary hearing before district Judge David Mark on Wednesday, the simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness charges were dismissed. The disorderly conduct charge was reduced to a summary violation, according to online court records.
