DUI Charges Pending Against Teen Involved in Cecil Crash

Cecil Township police are awaiting the results of a blood draw.

Charges of driving under the influence are pending against an 18-year-old Cecil Township man who crashed head on into a tree on Grange Road in Cecil Township Saturday night.

Cecil police said a passing motorist called 911 around 8:15 p.m. Saturday to report that a red Chevy pickup truck had struck an embankment near the car wash on Millers Run Road and then made a right on Grange Road.

Officers caught up with the vehicle, it was crashed head on into a large tree on the south berm, police said.

Officer said it appeared as though the driver, later identified as Allan David Hofrichter, 18, of North DePaoli Road, had failed to negotiate a slight right-hand curve in the roadway.

When police approached the vehicle, they Hofrichter was unconsious and sitting in the driver's seat. Officers said they were able to rouse him after several attempts.

Asked for his identification, police said the man responded "very slowly."

Officers also noted that Hofrichter's eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and that the odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from him.

Asked how much alcohol he had consumed, officer said the man said "a lot" and added, "I am (expletive deleted) up."

With assistance from first responders, Hofrichter was able to exit the vehicle through the passenger-side door.

However, police said he was  unsteady on his feet, and was unable to perform field sobriety tests.

Hofrichter was transported to Canonsburg General Hospital, where he was advised by police that he was being placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

The extent of his injuries was not immediately known Monday.

Charges are pending the results of a blood draw, police said.
