It's Not Too Late to Celebrate National Ice Cream Month!
Wednesday is the last day of the month—National Ice Cream Month, that is! Here are five local places to celebrate with a milkshake, cone or other frozen treat!

If you're hankering for a milkshake or sundae, you can thank former President Ronald Reagan for giving us all a whole month to celebrate the frozen dairy treats.
Reagan in 1984 declared July National Ice Cream Month—and considering that Wednesday is the last day to celebrate, we here at Canon-McMillan Patch figured we'd give you a list of five local places to hoist a cone in honor of the designation.
1. Sarris Candies
This iconic Canonsburg store is known for its decadent chocolate—but its ice cream parlor is also a favorite place for local families to get their dairy on. With 26 flavors of hard-pack ice cream on the menu, customers can customize their cones or milkshakes. If you want to go big in honor of the holiday, why not try a Big Tyme Sundae? With three big scoops of ice cream and your favorite toppings, it will surely be enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. To check out the full menu, click here.
2. Casciola's Twin Twist
This venerable Cecil Township ice cream store and diner has tons of flavors—24 to be exact—for those who prefer soft serve. One Urban Spoon reader said the root beer floats are especially good, for those who'd like to try something other than a cone. If you want to do dinner or lunch before getting your ice cream fix, this is the place. The robust menu can be viewed here.
3. Turtle Twist
Want something a tad different? The Turtle Twist on state Route 980 in Canonsburg has soft serve custard for hungry customers. While the vanilla and chocolate options are always on the table, the store also offers a wild card flavor of sorts—changing the selection every week. This week? Orange dreamsicle. 4. Sonic
You've likely seen the commercials boasting myriad shake choices at this restaurant, self-titled "America's Drive In." The Frozen Zone section of the menu includes all kinds of options for the ice cream connoisseurs. Peanut butter and jelly shake? Done. Banana cream pie shake? Done. Did we mention there are also floats and sundaes on the menu? But here—find out all the options for yourself by clicking here. And remember, the nearest Sonic is right in North Strabane.
5. Kings Family Restaurant
There are a host of frozen option on this sit-down restaurant's menu. There's pie a la mode, there are their famous Frownie Sundaes, fried ice cream and more. And if you sign up as a Kings Reward member this month, you get a free sunday. Sounds like a reason to celebrate, indeed. To check out the menu, click here. Our neighborhood Kings is right in North Strabane.
