North Strabane Community Day to Include Food, Fun and Fireworks

Fireworks are expected to begin around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

There's gonna be a party in North Strabane Township this weekend.

The North Strabane Parks & Recreation Board, along with the Community Day Committee, has organized the return of the township's well-attended Community Day event—and the celebration starts Saturday.

Organizers said Community Day is a free event and "an opportunity for the people and businesses of the community to acknowledge our shared goals."

There will be plenty of information booths, demonstrations, food, and fun to entertain the entire family—from toddlers to senior citizens. Festivities will conclude with the annual fireworks display that will light up the sky at approximately 9:30 – 9:45 pm.

Also planned for the event? Country Singer Chris Higbee is scheduled to give a live performance and additional music entertainment will be provided by Tim Grealish, as well as the Four Townsmen.

There is also talk of a Community Day favorite returning … the Dunk Tank!

"You won’t want to miss out on an opportunity to dunk your favorite township member!," organizers said.

There will be appearances from The Pittsburgh Passion women’s football team and the Wild Things mascot.

The Community Day Kid’s Zone will provide free activities for youngsters of all ages.

There will also be two strolling magicians and two clowns who will entertain with balloon art and face painting. There will be a scavenger hunt that will take place throughout the park.

But wait, there's more: There will be a trackless train for kids to ride, as well as myriad games.

The games this year are include a fish pond, tip the cat, basketball, and hill climbing.

There will be four inflatables for hours of fun.

Looking for a little competition? The board has you covered! A cornhole tournament will begin at 3 p.m. The cost to participate will be $15 per two-person team for those who register the day of the tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers.
