North Strabane Township supervisors this week presented a $50,000 check to the Save Canonsburg Lake project.
"You can't take this to the bank—unless you find a really big bank," board Chairman Steve Motzer said with a laugh as he helped present the over-sized check to Canonsburg Lake Restoration and Improvement Committee members.
On a more serious note he said: "Canonsburg Lake is an asset to the area and it has been neglected way too long."
Committee members thanked the board for its "show of faith."
The Canonsburg Lake Restoration & Improvement Committee has completed several projects.
A master site plan has been created with funding from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and includes the addition of walking paths, parking, lighting, kiosks, landscaping, foot bridges and more.Â
There is a pending need for structurally reinforcing the dam. Efforts are underway to secure funds to do this work.
