North Strabane Township Man Jailed on Child Endangerment Charges
Joshua Smith remains in Washington County Jail on $50,000 straight bond.

A North Strabane man is in the Washington County Jail after township police said he hit a girl with a laptop and tried to strangle her with both hands during an altercation Friday night outside a Garden Street residence.
Police charged Joshua Smith, 38, with endangering the welfare of children, simple assault and harassment Friday.
Police said the victim was transported to Canonsburg General Hospital for treatment.

Officers indicated that her injuries were not life-threatening.
Smith was arraigned early Saturday by District Judge Joshua Kanalis and remanded to the Washington County Jail after being unable to post a $50,000 straight bond, according to online court records.

He remained in jail as of Monday.
Online court records indicate that Smith is scheduled to appear before District Judge Jay Weller at 10 a.m. April 16 for a preliminary hearing.
