Man Charged With DUI After Police Said He Was Speeding With No Headlights
Police said the Avella man was driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.

When Cecil Township police first saw the silver Pontiac early Sunday morning, officers noted that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed—so high that, although officers pulled out to follow it, the car was out of site by the time they turned onto Millers Run Road.
But as police returned to the Cecil Township Municipal Building, they noted scattered car parts along the roadway before seeing the Pontiac the second time—and even though the vehicle had crashed in the parking lot, it again sped away down Millers Run Road.
Police pursued the vehicle, which officers noted was traveling about 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, and was smoking and leaking fluids. The vehicle crossed the center line and onto the berm of the road several times, police said.

After about a mile, the driver stopped the vehicle near Weavertown Environmental.
When police approached the vehicle, officers noticed that the odor of alcohol was emanating from it, and that the driver, Robert Lee Camp Jr., 22, of Avella, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

When he was asked to step out of the vehicle, officers said he stumbled and nearly fell over.
Police conducted field sobriety tests—and said Camp failed them all.
Officers also noted that the front end of Camp's vehicle was severely damaged, and that both headlights were missing.
Officers placed Camp under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence and transported him to the Cecil Township Police department for a breath test.
Police said the breath test showed that Camp's blood-alcohol content was .197 percent.
Charges of DUI, reckless driving and accidents to unattended property will proceed by summons. Camp will also be cited for failing to stop when police first attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
