School Staffers Get Dunked at Cecil Elementary Fun Day

Students who reached their reading goals got a chance to "dunk" a teacher at the Accelerated Reading Fun Day.

There are many reasons students like to read—but usually dunking a teacher isn't one of them.

But at Cecil Elementary School’s third annual AR (Accelerated Reader) "Fun Day" in May, 67 students had the opportunity to take aim and send school staff members into the water.

Students in grades K-4 set AR goals in September. Those who reached their goal of 40 AR points or more had the chance to dunk a teacher.

Seven teachers, Principal Tula Dziak and Lewis Crouse, the school custodian, challenged the students to dunk them.

The top three students with the most AR points received a Barnes and Noble gift card. They are fourth-graders Ethan Norway, first place; Maxwell Robinson, second place, and Sarah Sciorrili, third place.

Students also enjoyed a snow cone treat on that hot day.
