The new coronavirus has changed life for all of us. Local businesses have taken a huge economic hit, but communities are finding creative ways to support the establishments they know and love.

In an effort to help local businesses in our communities stay connected and succeed, Patch will shine a light on some of them through a series of Q&A articles during this time.

Tell us about your business and its history in your town.

Chartiers Center celebrated 50 years of service last year. As a community mental health center, we provide treatment and outreach to consumers struggling with their mental health. We also provide case management services to help link consumers to benefits, housing needs, homeless outreach, transportation concerns, education, etc. They are mobile and work to support consumers in the community.

Residential programs are available and focus on specific areas like geriatrics, chronic mental illness and crisis intervention. When not closed due to COVID-19 we operate a social rehab program in the Mt. Lebanon area which offers daily programs of interest. In addition, we support adults with intellectual disabilities in our day program in Dormont (which is also closed now due to COVID-19).


How has the new coronavirus impacted your business and its employees?

Chartiers Center is now delivering services to consumers via tele-health. Any existing consumers or new referrals can access our services by calling the Intake Specialist at 412 221-3302 ext.123. Through tele-health, consumers are able to keep appointments with their doctors and therapists. Anyone experiencing issues related to depression or anxiety can call to schedule an intake appointment.


How can local customers support you now and in the future?

Local customers can support us by donating cleaning supplies, masks, food, pet food and donations.


Do you have any words of encouragement for your community?

If anyone is looking for help, consider calling us. Chartiers Center tele-health services have been well received by our consumers who shared the following:

  • “Thankful to still be able to talk to my therapist and stay safe.”
  • “Relieved not to have to leave my home because I have a compromised immune system and still receive services.”
  • “Eased my anxiety of not having to go outside.”
  • “Glad to be able to have access to my therapist during this stressful time.”

Bethany Presbyterian Church. The church staff always respond to us when we request help. Great community support.
