Thousands Without Power As Strong Winds Wreak Havoc On Region
High winds across the area have knocked out power and caused injuries.

Update: West Penn Power and Duquesne Light have restored power to several thousands across the region after strong winds caused power outages on Monday, but many thousands are still without power.
More than 4,000 customers have still been affected by the strong winds, according to West Penn Power, and 7,000 are still without power due to high winds, according to Duquesne Light.

West Penn Power reports that more than 26,000 customers have been affected by power outages and as of 3:30 p.m., Duquesne Light reports that 25,000 customers are currently without power due to high winds.
In a release on its website, Duquesne Light reports that it is working as quickly as possible to assess any damage and restore power to its customers. The company did not have an estimated restoration time for service, but says it will provide information as it becomes available. Duquesne Light cautions residents to avoid any downed power lines and assume they are still energized, the release said.

Additionally, Monday afternoon, a man was sent to the hospital after an accident on a construction site in Cranberry was caused by the intense winds. According to The Tribune-Review, wooden two-by-fours and plastic that were covering a window blew out, hitting one man. The victim was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.
