Forks YMCA Education Center Kicks Off Camp with a Reptile Show

Forks YMCA Education Center's summer camp is about learning skills, developing character and making friends.

The Forks YMCA Education Center welcomes the summer season with a reptile show on Wednesday, June 14. The show, for enrolled campers, will feature reptiles from around the world, including “Popcorn” a twenty foot albino corn snake.

This interactive and educational show is just one of eight educational presenters visiting the center, located at 1350 Sullivan Trail in Forks Township, over the eleven-week camp program. Other presenters include the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls, Easton Town Crier David Rose, Mad Science of the Lehigh Valley, Da Vinci Science Center, Lehigh Valley Zoo, King Arthur Flour Bake for Good, and Ronald McDonald. The presenters align with weekly camp themes.

Children, kindergarten through fifth grade, will also go on field trips to Blue Mountain Resort, Bushkill Park Roller Rink, YMCA Camp Kresge, and the Da Vinci Science Center. A highlight ever summer is field day, where campers from the Forks YMCA Education Center, will compete against campers from the Allentown YMCA & YWCA, Bethlehem YMCA, YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg & Vicinity, Nazareth YMCA, Pocono Family YMCA, Slate Belt YMCA and Suburban North YMCA in relays, outdoor games, and song contests

Rounding out what will be the best summer ever is twice weekly swims at Heil Pool, weekly Philly Pretzel Factory Days, and daily trips to a camp store stocked with ice cream and other refreshing treats.

Like many Y youth programs, camp is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as day camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities.
