The National Guard out in Fort Indiantown Gap offers this course on the Current Heroin Threat. It is available for Law Enforcement, Corrections, Military, and Community Based Organizations for FREE. It is 8 hours of state of the art and state of the issue information for our local community infrastructure. Make sure you share this info with all of the above mentioned community groups. The Guard will even bring the training to your group instead of them traveling.

Course Description:
All aspects relating to the current heroin threat will be examined in detail. The explosion of heroin usage over the past five years will be reviewed in the context of its history as well as current trends relating to manufacturing, sales, usage and the investigation of those involved. The overall pharmacological and psychological effects on both short and long term users will be discussed. The latest enforcement techniques will be reviewed along with a full discussion of “best practices” being seen in various jurisdictions. The final discussion will involve resources being dedicated to both treatment and prevention.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Analyze the history of heroin usage and how it relates to today’s issues.
2. Asses the currently identified trends in the manufacturing and distribution of heroin.
3. Understand the pharmacology of heroin.
4. Analyze both the physical and psychological effects of heroin and its direct relation to law enforcement actions today.
5. Evaluate numerous enforcement perspectives and obtain the skills necessary to determine the best and safest avenue of enforcement action.
6. Summarize and evaluate the latest heroin treatment and prevention programs as well as be able to identify current available resources in the treatment filed.
