Phony Deputy Steals $2,400 From Woman, Police Say
Easton woman gives $2,400 to man claiming to be Northampton County deputy sheriff.

For the second time in as many weeks, an Easton area resident has fallen prey to a phone scam.
This time it involves a South Side woman who apparently gave $2,400 to a man pretending to be a Northampton County deputy sheriff.Â
According to the Express-Times, the caller said the woman would be arrested if she didn't make the payment.Â
Police tell the newspaper the case is under investigation.Â
Earlier this month, a Wilson man fell victim to another, more menacing sort of threat, when a caller said they had the man's son at gunpoint.
State police say these calls are becoming common around Pennsylvania, and advise people to be wary of any caller asking for money to be wired.
