Polar Plunge Returns to Easton Next Month

Special Olympics hopes to raise money from "Super Plungers" at this year's Polar Plunge in Easton.

Feel like jumping in the Delaware River? In mid-January?

What if we told you it was for charity?

In this case, we're talking about the Pennsylvania chapter of the Special Olympics, which is bringing its Polar Plunge back to Easton on Saturday, Jan. 18.

Last year, the plunge raised more than $100,000, with more than 600 people taking a quick dip in the river at the city's Scott Park.

This year, there's a new twist to the plunge, the so-called "Super Plunge."

As the organization explains on its website:

"For the 24 hours leading up to the Lehigh Valley Polar Plunge, an elite group of plungers called 'Super Plungers' will take a chilly dip every hour into a pool of icy water (yes, 24 plunges!)"
