Sold, For $4 Million: Easton City Hall

City finalizes $4 million sale of Alpha Building.

The sale of Easton's City Hall has been finalized, Mayor Sal Panto reported Tuesday evening.

"We are no longer owners, we are tenants," Panto said at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

They're also $4 million richer. That's how much developer Mark Mulligan's Alpha Development paid for the Alpha Building, the S. Third Street highrise that has served as the seat of city government since 1996.

Alpha Development's plan is to turn the first floor of the nine-story building into commercial space, have offices on the third, fourth and fifth floors, and 30 to 40 apartments on the upper floors.

The city will move to new offices on the first block of S. Third Street by 2015. In the meantime, it will rent the four floors of the building that it uses for $6 per square foot.
