Berks County Man Arrested for Halloween Bank Robbery, Newtown Manhunt

Jeffry Houir, 24, was charged with robbery and committing an act of terrorism in connection with an alleged crime spree on Halloween night.

A 24-year-old Berks County man has been charged in connection with robbing a New Jersey bank and leading police on a chase that ended with his apprehension following a foot pursuit in Wrightstown Township on Friday evening.

Jeffry Houir, 24, of Douglassville, was charged with robbery and committing an act of terrorism, the Hunterdon County Democrat reported. Houir allegedly told the bank teller he had a bomb, the report said.

After robbing the bank, Houir allegedly fled the scene and was later spotted on Route 202, where he was followed over the bridge into Bucks County. Police from Solebury and Newtown Township joined the pursuit, which ended when Houir crashed into a Halloween display outside of the Carousel Village on Route 413 in Wrightstown Township around 6:30 p.m.

The Halloween bank robbery and subsequent chase prompted police to send trick-or-treaters inside as they searched for the subject. He was found about 50 minutes later, the Democrat reported.

According to eyewitness accounts, a search helicopter assisted in the pursuit.
