Macungie Woman Killed After Collision with Tractor-Trailer

A collision in Lower Macungie leaves one woman dead.

A Macungie woman was killed after her car collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 100 and Shoeneck Road in Lower Macungie Wednesday night, police said.

Police identified the victim as Sally Romano, 53, according to The Express-Times. The cause of death was not immediately clear, the newspaper said. Romano was pronounced dead by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Betsy Cascino at 8:25 p.m., according to The Morning Call.

The accident was reported around 7:30 p.m. during a light snowfall, but police do not believe the snow played a role in the accident, The Morning Call said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who has not been identified, said he believed a woman was trapped in the vehicle and was seriously injured.

Authorities closed one mile of Route 100 between Macungie and Breinigsville during their investigation. The roadway reopened at 11:40 p.m.
