Volunteers are needed for the 30th the annual edition of Lehigh Valley Mathcounts, which will be held Saturday, February 8 at Trexler Middle School, 851 North 15th Street, Allentown, PA.
Organized by the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the PA Society of Professional Engineers, the event attracts over 200 students from more than two dozen middle schools (including Eyer and Lower Macungie) in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon and Monroe Counties to compete in written and oral math exams to win the right to advance to state and national competitions. Students and coaches devote many after-school hours to prepare for what some have called the “Olympics of math.” ESPN has televised the national competitions, which take place in May.

Lehigh Valley volunteer activities include test scoring, team registration, set up assistance, organizing test packets, and exam proctoring. Mathematic proficiency is not a pre-requisite. The time commitment is just a few hours on the evening of February 7 or the morning of February 8 but the rewards are many.
Those interested in volunteering should contact Christopher Williams, EIT, LEED AP at cwilliams@barryisett.com or 610-398-0904 during normal business hours.
