After filing for Chapter 11 protection, RadioShack has begun closing more than 1,700 stores around the country.

RadioShack released a list of more than 1,700 store locations targeted for closure this past weekend, six of which are in the Lehigh Valley region.
Since filing for Chapter 11 protection on Feb. 5 and releasing the list of stores targeted for closure, the Fort Worth, Texas-based, retailer has begun closing as many as 1,784 stores around the United States, according to Fox Business.
General Wireless is reported to be purchasing between 1,500 and 2,400 of RadioShack’s U.S. Company-owned stores, RadioShack said in a news release. Additionally, telecommunications company Sprint will “establish a new dedicated mobility ‘store within a store’ retail presence” in up to 1,750 of the stores purchased by General Wireless, according to the news release.
