Three East Penn Schools Chosen as 2016/2017 Title I Distinguished Schools

EPSD Schools chosen as Title I Distinguished Schools

The East Penn School District is pleased to announce that Jefferson, Lincoln, and Macungie Elementary Schools have been chosen as Title I Distinguished Schools by the PA Department of Education for the 2016/2017 School Year.

Title I is a 100% federally funded supplemental educational program that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies to improve learning opportunities. Title I programs are designed to help children meet the state content and performance standards in reading, language arts, and mathematics.

Each year, the Division of Federal Programs honors the top performing Title I schools in Pennsylvania. This year, they used the approved ESEA Flexibility Waiver designation of reward. Reward schools are defined as the highest 5% of Title I schools in PA that meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • Math and Reading PSSA scores
  • Annual Measureable Objectives (AMOs)
  • Math and English Language Arts (ELA) Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment System (PVAAS) data
  • Attendance rates

The PA Department of Education selected 179 Title I schools to be named Distinguished Schools based on the above criterion. Using this criterion, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Macungie Elementary have been selected to be a Title I Distinguished School in the 2016-2017 School Year.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division of Federal Programs, will be honoring Jefferson, Lincoln, and Macungie Elementary Schools at the 2017 Title I Improving Schools’ Performance Conference as a 2016-17 Distinguished Title I School. All distinguished schools will be honored at the conference during the Distinguished Schools’ Award Ceremony on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 4:00 PM. The 2017 Title I Improving Schools’ Performance Conference will be held January 29 - February 1, 2017 at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh.
