77-year-Old Woman Dies in Monroeville House Fire

An early morning house fire last week left one dead.

A 77-year-old woman died after flames tore through a Monroeville house last week, authorities said.

The woman was identified as Mary J. Gentile. Firefighters responded to the home on Hillsdale Drive in the early morning hours on Thursday, Jan. 29, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Gentile died at 1:19 a.m. as a result of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, the Tribune-Review reported.

Neighbors said they awoke to the flames from Gentile’s home around midnight and were about to report the fire, but firefighters were already responding to the scene, the Tribune-Review said.

According to neighbors, Gentile had two adult children, but lived in the home alone, the Tribune-Review reported.
