Pregnant Woman Dies After Being Hit By Car

A pregnant woman was killed after being struck by a car that drove up onto the sidewalk in the Northside of Pittsburgh.

A pregnant woman died after being struck by a car on Pittsburgh’s Northside.

The accident occurred just after 3:45 p.m. outside of a Rite Aid store on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Brighton Road, according to KDKA-TV.

The woman, 23, who has not yet been identified, was either sitting or bending down when she was struck by the vehicle driven by an 88-year-old man. Police say the car was pulling into a parking space when it drove up onto the sidewalk and pinned the woman against a wall. It’s believed that the man may have hit the accelerator instead of the brake, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The woman was rushed to Allegheny General Hospital, where her baby was also delivered. The baby was taken to Children’s Hospital where it is in critical condition, according to the Post-Gazette.

The mother of the baby was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m.

Police are still questioning the driver of the vehicle, according to KDKA.
