Regent Square Resident Appointed As President of the Pittsburgh Rotary Club

A long-time volunteer for health, community and animal-related causes,  Portia Weston of Regent Square has been named the president of the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh.


According to a press release, Weston is only the fourth female president in the 101 year history of the organization, which engages in service work in Pittsburgh and internationally.  

Weston—a professor and the director of the English department at Point Park University—previously served as chair of the scholarship committee for the Rotary.

Weston is an active volunteer, serving on the board of directors of  Focus on Renewal in McKees Rocks, chair of the advisory board for the Father Ryan Arts Center, also in McKees Rocks; a national mentor for the  Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; and, a volunteer with the Golden Retrievers in Need of Cleveland, OH.   


“I am honored to be part of the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh, an organization whose overarching mission is to help every young person succeed,” Weston said in a statement.

Each year,  the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh implements two signature projects, one local and one international.  The current projects include- support for a youth entrepreneurship center associated with Urban Pathways Charter High School, and the Hekima Place outside of Nairobi, Kenya, a compound designed to house girls who have been orphaned by the AIDS virus and enable them to gain an education.
