COVID-19: Impacts More Than Health

It is important we know where candidates and elected officials stand, below is a statement from the campaign of Laura Quick, candidate for PA 9th Congressional district:

As the World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 a pandemic we must take every precaution and be aware of how we can help each other. Many schools and businesses are extending spring break and pausing classes to train staff and take extra precautions to keep students and staff safe. Community events and meetings are being canceled and postponed.

While we must initially focus on those who are physically vulnerable, next we must prepare for those who will be impacted in a ripple effect within the economy. We must also discuss how we move forward with protecting all citizens during a health crisis.

There is a lot of information on how we can protect ourselves and our families as well as those who are physically vulnerable but we must get ready to protect those who are financially vulnerable.

There is a bill that would guarantee all workers paid sick time. According to The Hill,

“The bill unveiled by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) would mandate all employers to let workers accrue seven days of paid sick leave and immediately provide 14 additional days when there is a public health emergency.”

When in Congress I will support efforts like this that will protect all workers.
