Local Police Increasing DUI Enforcement over Super Bowl Weekend

10,322 people were killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in the United States in 2012—31 percent of all crash fatalities, NHTSA said.

While the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots prepare to step up their respective games on Sunday, local police are stepping up driving while intoxicated enforcement.

The Lower Saucon, Hellertown and Freemansburg police departments will be conducting DUI roving patrols during the Super Bowl weekend, the Lower Saucon Township Police Department said on their Facebook page. Super Bowl Sunday is among the most popular days for socializing, that may include alcohol, so local police are increasing enforcement to crack down on drunken drivers over the weekend.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 10,322 people killed in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes in the United States in 2012, accounting for 31 percent of all crash fatalities in the nation. A driver is considered alcohol-impaired with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher, the legal limit in all states.
