Good news: the Dodsworth Run Preserve is now open to the public after an ecologically crucial donation from Merck.

UPPER GWYNEDD, PA -- The Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association has acquired a new 9 acre preserve in Upper Gwynedd.

The Dodsworth Run Preserve, a 9.4 acre parcel within the watershed, was obtained thanks to a donation from Merck, the WVWA said.

A formal dedication took place on May 12, and the preserve was immediately opened to the public.

The WVWA described the key acquisition in a news release.

The Dodsworth Run Preserve is unique to WVWA as it is located on land that once housed a Leeds and Northrup manufacturing facility which Merck purchased in 1997. Recapturing previously developed land and converting it to open space is an especially effective way to protect the watershed.

With this donation, WVWA is able to reach closer to the headwaters of the Wissahickon Creek, which is important in the work of providing for the health and well-being of the entire creek. Thanks to Merck & Co., Inc. for being a good corporate citizen and community partner, and to Upper Gwynedd Township for their support in making this a successful collaborative effort.

The preserve is located on 512 Dickerson Road.
