Alleged Fraudulent Prescription Ring Leader Caught

Vincent Belmont III is accused of using fraudulent prescriptions to buy painkillers from county pharmacies.

A fugitive who is accused of running a fraudulent prescription ring, targeting pharmacies in both Bucks and Montgomery counties, has been caught, according to published report.

Vincent Belmont III, 41, was arrested on March 26 according to The Bucks County Courier Times. The following day he was arraigned, on 47 counts, including forgery and violations of the controlled substance and drug act. Belmont was taken to Buck County Prison in lieu of bail, which was set at $75,000.

Belmont was cooperating the investigation since 2013 when several people in the alleged scheme were arrested. However, Belmont soon disappeared until police used a tip that he girlfriend was in a Philadelphia hospital where they made the arrest.

Police say that Belmont and others were able to buy more than $200,000 worth of prescription painkillers and amphetamines over a five-month period in 2013. Belmont is accused of using MRIs of his own back injury and originally legal prescription to spearhead the operation.
