Encore to Host Senior Fraud Prevention Presentation

Encore Experiences, located at 312 Alumni Ave. in Harleysville, will host a senior fraud prevention presentation, April 12, starting at 12:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania State Police officer Morgan Crummy, or the Skippack station Troop K, is expected to give the presentation. According to Michele Ross, Encore Experiences program director, the presentation is designed for seniors, 55 or older, the general public is also invited to attend.
“We want people to have a heads up,” Ross said. “This program is good for everyone.”

Through her experience as program director at Encore Experiences, she notes that more and more seniors are becoming active and technologically familiar, allowing them also to be at risk for fraudulent crimes.
“A lot of seniors are using computers, cell-phones, iPods,” Ross said.

She said that Encore Experiences had a similar program last year, inviting members of the state Attorney General’s office, during which 40 people attended, she expects over 50 people at the April 12 event.
According to Ross, the expected increase of participation is due to the presenter’s familiarity with the area.
Participants are also expected to receive a senior fraud protection kit.
