Hatfield Man, Local Church Leader, Dies At 68

"He was an avid Phillies fan, loved walking his dog, hiking, and in more recent years, playing with his grandchildren."

HATFIELD, PA — Richard S. Haines, 68, of Hatfield, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 peacefully in his home. He was born in Temple Hospital, November, 19, 1949, the son of late Richard and Emily (Carrington) Haines.

He married his beloved wife, Naomi Reitz of Elysburg, PA in 1975.

He graduated from Henderson High School in West Chester, PA in 1968. He earned an associate’s degree in Business from Brandywine Junior College and finished his degree at Ursinus College with a degree in Accounting. He also graduated from Philadelphia College of Bible. He was the leader of the Junior Church Program at Grace Bible Church in Souderton, PA for over 10 years.

For the past 15 years, he attended Calvary Church of Souderton. He worked at Unisys in Blue Bell, PA for 30 years and then at Willis Towers Watson in Philadelphia, PA for 10 years before retiring.

Richard enjoyed photography and taking pictures of his family and nature, especially birds. He was an avid Phillies fan, loved walking his dog, hiking, and in more recent years, playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Naomi of Hatfield; daughters, Rebecca Santiago (Donny) of Port Jervis, NY; Rachel Johnsen (Greg) of Souderton; and Deborah Fretz (Mark) of Green Lane; and his adoring grandchildren, Bryn, Gavin, Jeremiah, Emelia, and Gracyn. He is also survived by his brother William and wife, Ming of Ardmore, PA.

He was preceded in in death by his father Richard, mother Emily, and grandson Samuel.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Calvary Church in Souderton, PA, with the Memorial Service at 11:00 am.
