Hometown Heroes Walk Puts Out Last Call

Those looking to help local vets need to register by Wednesday.

The Hometown Heroes Walk in Lansdale will be the first of its kind in the borough. The walk is benefitting the Wounded Warrior Project, and is ready to go come June 8.

Organizer, Upper Gwynedd resident and Army veteran Mike “Bishop” Rieg has is asking that both walkers and teams register by Wednesday.

The walk will begin at Trinity Lutheran Church. The route will continue east on Main Street to Memorial Park. There will be a loop around Memorial Park, and then back to Main Street, westbound to Trinity Lutheran Church.

The walk is an offshoot of the Pennsylvania Hero Walk, where people walk 320 miles along the shoulder of Route 30 – 25 miles a day – from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to Wayne, Pa.

Walkers would donate $20 and walk for an hour along the route. Money would also be raised through T-shirt sales.

Along the way, walkers pick up litter and ask for donations for their walking. Any walk teams who want to participate are asked to contact Rieg by May 15 via telephone at 215-362-1089 or by e-mailing LansdaleWalk@verizon.net.

Walkers each must donate $20 each to cover the cost of the walk T-shirt. For their walking, the participants are also "rewarded" with food, drink and a Red Hill Band show.
