There's an increased risk of Christmas tree fires after the holiday has passed. Here's how to dispose your tree in the Lansdale area.

LANSDALE, PA — Trying to plan when and how to dispose of your Christmas tree in the Lansdale area?

Local officials have announced when holiday season tree pick up will take place.

In Lansdale, public works crews will make pick ups on one day only: Saturday, Jan. 11. Trees must be on curbs by no later than 6 a.m.

That's the only day crews will collect trees from the curbside. After that, trees can be dropped off at the complex on 9th Street and Moyers Road for recycling.

In Montgomery Township, used Christmas trees can be recycled by dropping them off at William F. Maule Park at Windlestrae, located on 1147 Kenas Road.

In Hatfield Township, bring your trees to the Hatfield Community Park and Pool and drop them in the designated area through the end of January.

Local student nonprofit Students Against Violating the Earth (SAVE) recycles Christmas trees into wood chips, and spreads them into trails and flower beds around Souderton. A collection will take place on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Franconcia Township Park by the Allentown Road entrance.

Whether you're having your tree picked up or if you're dropping it off, it will only be accepted if all lights, wires, or decorations have been removed.

The time between Christmas and New Years is when most Christmas tree fires happen, the National Fire Protection Association warns. The risk remains high after the New Year. Be sure to water your tree to prevent it from drying out and becoming fire-prone.
