“Elevation for Education” is the motto for Anoushka Gidh from Harleysville, PA. She is a rising High School Senior. She recently climbed up 18,000 ft. of Mount Kilimanjaro – the highest peak in Africa standing at 19,341 ft. - to raise funds for the “More Than Me” (MTM) academy. MTM is an all-girls school in Liberia that empowers its students by providing them education, nutrition, healthcare and a safe haven. Anoushka wanted to raise funds for a new school building for the MTM Academy. This will help them continue to bring hope, confidence and empowerment to an even larger number of girls of Liberia. Anoushka believes that there is no better cause than the cause of education for girls around the world because girls are the future of the world. Anoushka wants these girls in Liberia to not only survive but thrive. Although she was not able to reach the peak due to altitude fatigue, Anoushka climbed up to 18000 ft. During the toughest part of the hike, Anoushka constantly reminded herself that she was climbing to support the young girls of MTM and that helped her to persevere in her climb despite the harsh conditions on the mountain. She is glad that she embarked on this 7-day hike because it was a life changing experience for her and it taught her that we should not give up easily no matter how tough the situation.
Anoushka and her parents paid their way for the hike. All the funds raised through the GoFundMe web site are going to the More Than Me Academy. If anybody is interested in donating, here’s the link - https://www.gofundme.com/MoreThanMe-ClimbingKilimanjaro?u=19159128
