Longtime Lansdale Pediatrician, Area Volunteer, Dies At 87
Dr. Richard Alpert was a dedicated local pediatrician for 40 years, in addition to work with area first responders and the Red Cross.
LANSDALE, PA — A beloved local doctor, volunteer, and dedicated member of the community, Dr. Richard Alpert died at his home on July 17. He was 87.
Alpert served the Lansdale area community as a pediatrician for 40 years with Lansdale Pediatrics, according to his obituary. He was also a life member of the Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company and was a medical advisor to other local first responders, including Harleylsville Ambulance Corp and Volunteer Medical Service Corp.
"Doc, many times, would take it upon himself to respond directly to local calls involving medical emergencies, rendering aid where he could and certainly affecting the lives of those involved, countless times saving them," the Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company said in a statement remembering Alpert.

His obituary shows that he was a man of wide and diverse interests.
"Richard was a beloved pediatrician, an adventurous world traveler who visited all seven continents, an enthusiastic amateur photographer, a dedicated diarist, and an avid listener of classical music," the obit states.

He leaves his wife of 64 years, Effie Lou, as well as three children, seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
